New Cell Phone Purchase and Prorated Charges

0 comments | Post Comments

When I purchased a new cell phone, I was told I will be paying for prorated charges, what does this mean exactly?

At the time of your cell phone purchase and activation, you are automatically assigned a billing cycle and date. Assuming you are given a ending billing cycle date of the 15th and today being the 27th, this means that during this month, you will pay only from June 27th to July 15th. This is not a complete month, so therefore you will not be paying the whole amount, but the portion that applies for that time period. This is called prorated charges. In addition, since you are not paying for the whole month, you will also not be receiving your full amount of plan minutes, but the portion that applies for that time period. July 15th to August 15th will be your first complete month.

Please remember and keep in mind your billing cycle date because there are times where your billing cycle might be just a few days from the date of your purchase. For example, if your billing cycle ends on the 2nd of the month and your cell phone was activated today, the 27th, you will be paying prorated charges for the 27th to 2nd and then from the 2nd to the 2nd of the following month will be your first complete month.

Radio FM Preset Stations on The Sony Ericsson W810i Walkman Phone

0 comments | Post Comments

When the phone description says X number of preset radio stations, does this mean they cannot be changed?

Preset stations can be changed as many times as you want to change them. Preset station simply means that you save or store a specific station so you don't have to look and find that station every time you want to listen to it.

Why You Should Purchase Your Cell Phone Through An Authorized Dealer

0 comments | Post Comments

Many customers ask and wonder what is the difference between purchasing their cell phone through us or going to an AT&T, Verizon or any other wireless carrier corporate store and purchasing through them. This article will explain what an authorized dealer does and also why an authorized dealer is the best option if you want to get the absolute best deal on your next cell phone.

A cell phone authorized dealer, like LowCostCells.com, is exactly that, a dealer that is authorized by wireless carriers to sell cell phones and plans. If you look at many different industries, you will notice that you do not go directly to the manufacturer to purchase the product or service. For example, if you purchase an automobile manufactured by Honda, you are not going directly to Honda's manufacturing facility or plant to purchase, you are visiting your local Honda dealer, which very very likely is not owned by Honda itself. In another example, when you purchase appliances, you go to your local consumer electronics store, not directly to the appliance manufacturer.

In the cell phone industry, products and services are distributed by the carrier itself through their corporate stores and also through authorized dealers. The cell phones and cell phone plans that you can purchase through a carrier corporate store, you can also purchase through an authorized dealer. Authorized dealers do not and can not have plans and features that are different from the carrier itself. The carrier comes out with new plans and features for all its distributors, whether they may be their own corporate stores or their authorized dealers.

The biggest difference between an authorized cell phone dealer and carrier corporate stores is the pricing of the phones. Some authorized dealers, like LowCostCells.com, provide phone pricing that is much much lower than the carrier itself. The wireless carrier has no say in how much its authorized dealers charge for the phone itself, just like how authorized dealers have no say over the cell phone plans and features introduced by the carrier. Many people do not realize this tremendous amount of benefit and savings over purchasing directly from the carrier.

To prove this point, you can look throughout our website and compare our cell phone prices with those of the carrier itself, you will be amazed and very surprised with the difference. Just a few examples (prices are from the time this post was written):

1) AT&T RIM BlackBerry Pearl Red
Price on LowCostCells.com:
$49.99 Up front, $50 Mail-In Rebate, Final Cost: $0.00 / FREE
Price on AT&T / Cingular Website:
$249.99 Up front, $100 Mail-In Rebate, Final: $149.99

You would save $150 if you purchase your cell phone through LowCostCells.com.

2) T-Mobile Motorola Razr V3t Black
Price on LowCostCells.com:
$0.00 Up front, $50 Mail-In Rebate, Final Cost: Free and you make $50. (Click here to read how you can buy a cell phone and make money). + Free Bluetooth Headset!
Price on T-Mobile Website:
$149.99 Up front, $50 Mail-In Rebate, Final Cost: $99.99.

You would save $100 if you purchase your cell phone through LowCostCells.com.

3) Verizon Wireless Motorola Razr KRZR K1m
Price on LowCostCells.com:
$99.99 Up front, $100 Mail-In Rebate, Final Cost: FREE
Price on Verizon Wireless Website:
$99.99 Up front, $0 Rebate, Final Cost: $99.99

You would save $100 if you purchase your cell phone through LowCostCells.com

These are just a few examples of how much you would save if you purchased your cell phone through an authorized dealer such as LowCostCells.com. We are positive and know for a fact that 99.9% of our prices are better than the carrier itself.

LowCostCells.com is an authorized cell phone dealer for the following carriers: AT&T Phones, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint PCS, Nextel, U.S. Cellular, Alltel Wireless and Disney Mobile.
This article should have clarified your questions and concerns regarding purchasing from the carrier itself or through an authorized dealer. You can post any questions or comments through this post and we will gladly reply.

Ampd Mobile Has Filed For Bankruptcy Protection

0 comments | Post Comments

Earlier this month, Amp'd Mobile filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and said it will restructure their business. The company said it has to go through restructuring due to the fast paced growth, which the company's back-end has not been able to handle. Amp'd Mobile reportedly has around 200,000 subscribers and late last year announced that they are adding around 20,000 new subscribers per month.

As a result of this chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Amp'd Mobile phones are not available on our site for the time being. We do not know how long this will last and how long it will take for Amp'd Mobile to restructure and get back on their feet. Amp'd Mobile existing customes should not be concerned as Amp'd Mobile will continue to service and provide great cellular coverage during their restructuring efforts.

We will update you with more information as it becomes available. In the mean time, please choose a phone from one of our other national carriers. We offer great deals from AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint, Nextel and Alltel Wireless.

Men Talk More Than Women According to AT&T

0 comments | Post Comments

AT&T Inc. has announced that women are catching up with men in cell phone usage, according to an annual Father's Day poll commissioned by AT&T. After six years of men using significantly more minutes than women on average, the difference this year has narrowed to only five minutes of average talk time.

According to the survey of approximately 1,000 users, men average 458 minutes of monthly wireless phone usage, and women average 453 minutes. The largest historical gaps since the survey's inception in 2001 were in 2002, when men averaged 589 minutes and women talked only 394 minutes, and in 2005, when men averaged 571 minutes and women talked only 424 minutes.

The survey results also indicate that 45 percent of wireless subscribers use the text- messaging features on their device and 44 percent use the camera feature; 17 percent of subscribers play games on their wireless device and 11 percent access wireless e-mail. Women use the gaming, camera and text-messaging features more frequently, and men use their device for wireless e-mail and accessing the Internet more frequently than women.

Overall, both men and women continue to use cell phones more than home phones on average (455 minutes compared with 394 minutes), a trend that began in 2005. Women, on average, spend more time on home phones than men; women talk for 532 minutes compared with only 237 minutes for men. The survey also reveals that women use wireless phones more than men to talk with friends and family, but men use their phones more for business conversations.

"Women are quickly catching up with men in cell phone usage, illustrating that all consumers enjoy the flexibility and mobility that wireless phones add as they communicate with friends, family and business colleagues," said Tim Klein, vice president, AT&T's wireless unit. "AT&T is aggressively growing its portfolio to become the only wireless company these men and women will ever need."

The national survey of 1,006 qualified adult wireless user respondents (50 percent men and 50 percent women) was conducted for AT&T by International Communications Research in May 2007. The survey has been conducted since 2001 by using similar methodology and sampling demographics.

Cingular AT&T Rollover Plans - How Do They Work?

1 comments | Post Comments

Rollover cell phone plans is one of the most popular and attractive offers ever from Cingular Wireless now known as AT&T. What exactly is a rollover plan and how does it work? AT&T's rollover plans offer the ability to carry over each month's unused cellular minutes for future use. Each month you don't fully use your plan minutes, the unused minutes are put aside as 'rollover minutes' and get used only when you exceed your regular plan minutes. The following example should further clarify the benefits and usefulness of rollover plans.

Customer Robert has recently switched over to Cingular now AT&T and has signed up for the AT&T Nation 450 minute rollover plan. Robert uses 300 minutes the first month, 400 minutes the second month, 450 on the third month and 550 on the fourth month. With any other wireless carrier, Robert would've lost the unused minutes each month. With AT&T's rollover nation plan, Robert would accumulate 200 minutes in his rollover minutes balance and since he went over on the fifth month, instead of paying additional per minute charges for the 100 minutes he went over, those minutes would simply be deducted from his rollover minute balance.

With all customers, cell phone usage differs from month to month and with the benefit and great feature of rollover minutes, customers can be assured that their unused minutes will help them avoid paying for the extra minutes they use in their heavy usage months.

Rollover cell phone plans are exclusively available through Cingular Wireless now AT&T. You can take a look at all AT&T phones currently available with rollover plans by visiting the link below.

Bluetooth Cell Phones

0 comments | Post Comments

What is a Bluetooth cell phone? You see free bluetooth headset offers on many phones. Reading phone features, you see different Bluetooth versions and also hear this magic word from everyone and see it associated with many new gadgets and technologies.

Bluetooth is a technology that connects two or more devices wirelessly. These devices can be cell phones, printers, computers or anything else. Bluetooth wireless technology is very popular and with a range of about 33 feet, makes connecting and transferring data between many devices very easy.

So far, the biggest use of Bluetooth technology has been to connect a headset to the phone itself and be used to talk hands-free and wirelessly. Once a Bluetooth headset is connected or paired with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone, you can put your cell phone anywhere within 33 feet of your headset and you will be able to talk and converse freely. Truly, this is a big convenience over wearing a headset that's physically connected to your phone and you have to carry the phone with you as you walk around to talk. But this is not the only use for Bluetooth technology.

Using Bluetooth With Other Devices
Another great use of the Bluetooth technology is to connect your cell phone with your laptop or desktop computer. Many new laptops either already come with Bluetooth technology or that is one of the options when purchasing a new laptop. Bluetooth technology is not the norm for desktop computers and in order to Bluetooth enable a desktop computer, you will have to purchase a wireless USB adapter that will give your desktop computer wireless capability.

Once you have a Bluetooth enabled laptop or desktop, you can connect or pair it with your Bluetooth cell phone and transfer files, pictures and music from your computer to your cell phone and vice versa. You can also connect your cell phone with cell phones from other friends and family members and transfer pictures, music, files and other things depending on the model and feature capabilities of your phone.

There are many new products being introduced to the market with Bluetooth technology, this opens up new ways of communicating and they all make it easier than ever to connect multiple devices together.

Here's a list of some popular cell phones with Bluetooth technology:
T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl
Cingular Motorola Razr V3 Blue
Sprint Motorola Q

Cell Phone Upgrades Through LowCostCells.com

0 comments | Post Comments

My contract has expired with my existing carrier, do I qualify for a free phone if I renew my contract through LowCostCells.com?

Yes. LowCostCells.com currently offers many great deals to Cingular Wireless now AT&T, Sprint PCS and Nextel customers renewing their existing expired contracts. The procedure for upgrading your cell phone with a new contract is a little bit different, but LowCostCells.com makes this easy and gives you many phone choices to choose from.

To be eligible for a phone upgrade with a discount allowed for upgrading customers, your existing cell phone contract must be expired or you should be in the "eligible for upgrade" category. You can call your carrier's customer service and ask when your contract will finish and when will you be eligible for upgrade. Sometimes this is only after your contract has finished, but many times this date will be a month or two before the expiring of your contract, which is good.

We hope to soon be able to offer cell phone/plan upgrades to customers of all carriers, but for the time being this only applies to Cingular/AT&T customers along with Sprint PCS and Nextel.

Click on the links below to see all the phones available to upgrade/renewal customers:

Changing Cell Phone Providers and Keeping The Same Number

0 comments | Post Comments

Many customers want to switch their cell phone provider and keep the same phone number. This is not a problem at all anymore. In late 2003, wireless local number portability or WLNP was introduced. WLNP basically acknowledged customer's right to their phone number and gave them the option to take it wherever they go within their area code boundaries of course.

LowCostCells.com makes switching your phone number from one carrier to another extremely easy. All you have to do is, during checkout, look for the option to "bring your number from another carrier". Just follow the instructions which basically asks what that number is and from which carrier. Once you place your order, assuming there is no credit check issues, the computers of the new carrier communicate with the computers of the old carrier and automatically transfer your number.

Will my phone stop working before I get my new phone?
The date of "transfer" is usually set well in advance to make sure you have received your new phone before your existing wireless number transfers over to the new phone.

What happens to my existing carrier once my number transfers over?
As soon as your number is ported from the old carrier to the new, your old account is considered cancelled with the existing carrier. You can call them and make sure of this and ask for a final bill, which would include the last charges you incurred with that carrier.

Very Important
When switching cell phone carriers, if you want to keep your existing number, make sure to not cancel your existing account first. Cancelling your account before signing up for new service (and requesting your number to be brought over) will drop your phone number and you will lose that number.

In addition, if your contract has not expired with your existing provider and you sign up for a new phone and request your phone number to be ported to your new phone. Your existing carrier's contract will be considered broken and you will have to pay the termination fee. Make sure your contract has finished before porting your number.

Also, LowCostCells.com does not charge for this service. This service is provided free to our valuable customers.

Hopefully this post has explained and clarified how this process works. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post it in the comments.

Cingular is Now The New AT&T

1 comments | Post Comments

You have probably already seen the commercials and the joined logos, soon you will see a full transition from Cingular to AT&T. You might be wondering how this is possible since a few years back Cingular Wireless bought AT&T Wireless. Well AT&T purchased Cingular's parent company SBC Communications and hence became the owner of Cingular Wireless. This will be a smooth transition and AT&T/Cingular customers will have all the great benefits, advantages and the great wireless network just as before the transaction.

Over the next few days and weeks, you will see our Cingular links and logos slowly change over to AT&T links and logos. All our offers will stay the same and there will be no difference in the phones or plans for the time being.

Cell Phone Rebates Explained

0 comments | Post Comments

When purchasing a cell phone, you will come across many phones with rebate offers. At times, rebates can be very confusing and make something very simple look hard. This brief explanation of how rebates work and more specifically how cell phone rebates work will help you understand the process, what's needed and required.

How does the rebate process work?
A customer makes a purchase and then submits the rebate form along with all the requirements mentioned on the rebate form. Once the rebate form is submitted, it usually takes around 6-8 weeks for the rebates to be processed and payment sent back to customer.

Cell Phone Rebates
When purchasing a cell phone, you will come across different kinds of rebates. The most common and popular rebates are 1) Instant/upfront rebates. 2) Mail-In rebates relating to voice plan 3) Mail-In rebates relating to data plans (usually associated with smart phones and pdas).

1) Instant/Upfront Rebates
This is the amount discounted from the regular price of the phone to be sold with a plan. Usually purchasing a cell phone without a plan is a lot more expensive compared with purchasing with a plan. This is the instant rebate. For example: The T-Mobile Motorola Razr v3i Dolce and Gabbana's regular phone price is currently at $299.99 with your cost today at $149.99. This means the instant/upfront rebate amount is $150.

2) Mail-In Rebates relating to voice plan
You qualify for this rebate when you purchase a voice plan contract with a phone. Mail-In rebates require you to pay the up front cost today and after receiving your purchase, you mail in a form following all its requirements. Following the requirements of a rebate form is crucial, not only for cell phone rebates, but for rebates for any other purchases. Once you have submitted your rebate form, you are required to wait approximately 6-8 weeks for the processing and receiving of your rebate amount.

3) Mail-In Rebates relating to data plans
Data plans are plans that are needed in order to access e-mail and the internet over your phone. Mostly, these plans are used with Blackberry phones or Palm One Treos. The way the rebate works is just like the rebate for voice plans, the only difference being is that you must purchase a data plan and keep the data plan for a certain amount of time. Many times, you will have to purchase a voice plan to use the phone for voice calls and in addition purchase a data plan to access email and use the internet. In this case, you would submit two rebates, one for the voice plan and one for the data plan.

Throughout LowCostCells.com, you will see just "Rebates" after the cost today. This rebates amount is either the total amount of just the voice plan rebate or the total of voice plan rebate plus data plan rebate. You will have a chance to see the details of the rebates during the checkout process.

We have rebates available for all our carriers including Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, Nextel and Alltel.

Hope this brief explanation has helped clear what rebates are and how they work.

Buy A Cell Phone and Make Money!

0 comments | Post Comments

When shopping for a cell phone throughout our site, you will come across some cell phone deals where you will see "You make $XX". What does this mean? Can you really make money? Or is this just a gimmick? One thing you can count on and be sure of is this - this is no gimmick! You really can make money, here's how it works!

Most cell phones come with rebates, whether they are instant or mail-in, rebates significantly reduce phone prices. There are times where the rebate amount exceeds the actual amount you pay for the cell phone and in this case the difference is what's left for you, hence you make money!

Here are a few examples (these are the pricings at the time of this post):

1) Cingular Sony Ericsson W810i - Regular Price: $349.99, Instant Rebate: $349.98. This leaves your cost up front/out of pocket as $0.00/$0.01, basically free up front. Plus, there is a mail-in rebate of $100, which means after you mail-in the rebates and receive the rebate, you actually made $100.

2) T-Mobile Motorola Razr V3 Gray w/myfaves - Regular Price: $249.99, Instant Rebate: $249.99. Your cost up front or out of pocket cost is $0.00/Free. Mail-in rebates totalling $50. Which means you pay nothing up front, but when you get the rebates, you actually made $50. In addition, this phone also comes with a free bluetooth headset.

In conclusion, making money when purchasing a cell phone is very real and LowCostCells.com has many offers where you end up making money, browse through the rest of the site to see for yourself.
