Nokia announced a recall on about 14 million phone chargers due to a possible risk of electric shock. The danger comes when their plastic covers become loose and exposing the electrical components. The flaw was caught during a routine quality inspection. Presently there have been no reports of injury from these chargers.
All four models in question are made by BYD Electronic Company of China, but bear the Nokia brand. They are: models AC-3E and AC-3U, manufactured between June 15 and Aug. 9 this year; and AC-4U, manufactured between April 13 and Oct. 25, 2009.
If you think you may have one of these chargers, check the label on your charger. On it you will find the model number as well as the manufacturer. If you do have one of the BYD model numbers, you will then need the identification number, which is the very long number found near or at the bottom of the label.
You can then go to Nokia's charger exchange Website and input all of the charger information. You will be walked through the steps necessary to exchange your charger. Nokia also has a toll-free number (1-888-Nokia2U) if you'd prefer to call to facilitate your exchange.
