LG VX5500 - Good Phone for Seniors

I just put my 84 year old father on my cell phone plan. Shopping for his phone was completely than shopping for my last phone. He is not going to listen to music, surf the net, check in with his Facebook buddies, or even text message. What I needed to find was a simple, easy to navigate phone, with a large number keypad.

What I landed on was the LG VX5500 with Verizon (my current wireless carrier). It seems to be exactly what I wanted. I walked through it with Dad and he caught on quickly when it came to answering and dialing out. I am glad I went with a flip phone because answering it is easier for him than if he would have to search for a button to push. I programmed in some phone numbers, but I am pretty sure he will always dial them by hand since for him it's easier. The keypad is great. He can dial by just feel ... we practiced several times.

I don't expect him to use the camera or even the GPS, but I may get him to try out text messaging. He was so intimated at the thought of a cell phone, but now that he has seen how simple it is, I think he is going to want to see what else he can learn!

CASIO GzOne

If you are looking for a great phone for an active lifestyle, consider the CASIO GzOne with Verizon. This cell phone comes with applications for adventurous people such as Compass, Thermometer, Tides and Walking Counter. It also comes with a great media player.

This is an ideal phone for the person who spends more time outdoors than indoors and who wants a phone for the purpose of staying in touch only when necessary. This is not an extention of the office. The owner of the GzOne might use the 2.0 megapixal camera to take a picture of the view from mountain they just hiked and then send it to friends to gloat.

Another great candidate for this phone is, believe it or not, the teenager. As it is Military Spec 801F certified, it can handle most of the typical mistreatment teens can impose upon a phone. Whether it dropped on the ground or in a pool, it keep working. Anyone with a teenager, knows all the crazy things that can happen. Even responsible adults have been known to drive off with the phone on the roof of the car. The Casio GzOne can even handle that!

The Pixi

The Palm Pixi from Sprint is like the Palm Pre junior. This does not mean you should automatically rule it out in favor of the Pre, quite the contrary. More is not always better, it just depends on what you are needing from your smartphone.

At first glance, you will notice its sleek look. When you pick it up you will immediately feel the difference in size and weight. While the QWERTY keyboard is smaller, it is easier to use because the keys are raised than therefore your fingers don't slide. The 2.63 in display is as beautiful as we all have come to expect from any smartphone we seriously consider buying.

If you are familiar with webOS, you'll already know its benefits. The Synergy technology is so cool in how easily it imports information from various accounts and merges duplicates without losiing any information. If you are a major user of social media, you will love this.

Video streaming from Sprint TV on the Pixi is excellent. Sprint TV features some live channels like Disney and NFL channels and for a fee you can add more. Put simply, as a multimedia device, this cell phone is top-notch.

You can read more about the specific features of both the Palm Pixi and the Palm Pre at LowCostCells.com.

Motorola DROID - Living Up To The Hype?

The Motorola DROID for Verizon has been out for a while now ... so what's the verdict?

In terms of looks, this cell phone it's different and handsome. It does not have all the soft curves that the other major smartphones have gone opted for. The DROID is, well, droid-looking with it's more harsh look. This is not a bad thing ... the device looks all-business and it works. When you hold it, it feels exactly like it looks -- the word that comes to mind is significant.

So, is it worth the hype? Does it perform up to the current standards? Absolutley. Without getting into all the technical stuff, the bottom line is that the DROID is smooth and powerful. The QWERTY keyboard is nice and well-spaced, though it will take a little getting used to. The 3.7 inch touchscreen is absolutely gorgeous and more responsive than any of the other Android phones.

If you are in the market for a smartphone, or even if you're not, you'll want to check out the Motorola DROID. It's defnitely going to put a dent into it's competitors sales.

Cell Phone Numbers Going Public ... Again?

Have to seen this? Maybe you got an email or read a news article?

Cell phones numbers go public this month. All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.
...YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.
To prevent this, the Federal Trade Commission has set up a National Do Not Call list. It will only take a minute of your time...It blocks you number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different number. Call 888-382-1222.
The process takes about 20 seconds, do it now and save charges that you will not want
!

This urban legend has been circulating since 2004. There are variations, some will tell you you have a deadline to register, but all are equally false. Amazingly, I found this version on a news site.

You can register your cell phone number either by calling the number listed above or by going to
www.donotcall.gov - but you needn't worry that if you don't you will be inundated with calls on your cell phone next month.
