A friend of mine called me the other day because his contract with Verizon is about up and he is ready to order a new phone. He is aware that I have a little knowledge in this area and he wanted my input. I asked what he expected from his phone. He simply wanted one for phone calls and texting, and he likes using the number pad to text, so no QWERTY keyboard for him. This guy is the type who gets enough internet at home and work, so he is not looking for a smartphone or even your traditional texting phone.
I thought about my friend's personality and habits as I looked through the Verizon phone options and I hit upon one that I thought he would absolutely fall in love with. The Casio Exilim C721 is first, camera ... a 5.1 megapixel camera with a rotating display that serves as a view finder. The picture quality is excellent and rivals any standard digital camera.
The Exilim is also a cell phone ... with the Casio philosophy ... it's rugged. Built to military standards, this phone will withstand the elements, like water, dust, being dropped, and most of the other things that we tend to have to replace typical phones for. You can actually drop this phone in water and take a picture before you pull it out!
The combination of a durability and a great camera are perfect for my friend, as he loves adventure and he loves to take pictures of his adventures. Though he isn't concerned with having access to the internet from his phone, it is an option. He could post his photos immediately to Facebook, but he will be satisfied to send them via picture messaging.
This is actually a great phone for anyone who is not specifically seeking a smartphone. It's a great option for your teenager, as it can be dropped a lot, but it still has all of the features a teen will want.
My friend did fall in love with Exilim, and I think it will be my next phone too.
